Kiss & Tell
Wednesday July 8, 2009
8pm - 2am FREE
Guest DJs: Mark Verbos & Jon Autry
Resident DJ: Bethany Benzur
Hostess and Party photographer: Seze
Sound & Promotion: Beyond Booking

On July 8th, come Fade to Grey with Kiss & Tell. It is almost summer and it never seems to stop raining. Mark Verbos and his good friend Jon Autry will be spinning italo, industrial, classic dance, pre-techno, post punk, new wave and synth pop. Kiss & Tell resident Bethany Benzur will finish the night off with some rare disco gems and classic hits.

You are invited to wear white and all shades of grey, as we sip milky white russians.

I met Mark Verbos at the Bunker 303 party on March 3, 2006. Mark makes incredible acid tracks on all vintage analog synthesizers but he is also a producer and engineer. Verbos is Tommie Sunshine's right hand man in the studio, for whom he has remixed many of the guilty pleasure tracks we have frequently played at Kiss & Tell, such as Fischerspooner, Sissor Sisters, The Faint, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gang of Four, Peaches, and The Gossip. Mark has also produced countless records of his own music and remixed Tim Xavier, Ellen Allien, Ascii Disco, and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, just to name a few.

Hear the notes from a distant song

Kiss & Tell Guest DJ: Mark Verbos
Mark Verbos is a producer, DJ, engineer and synthesizer doctor. He began playing instruments and reading music at the age of 5. As a teenager, his interest turned to electronic music and he began playing live sets at Drop Bass Network parties in 1993. By the mid 90's Verbos released several EPs of his own and began working, as an engineer, in a professional Chicago recording studio. He worked on every imaginable music style, specializing in electronic dance music, working with many successful with clients. Mark started his own label in 1999, Simple Answer. He has toured throughout Europe as well as Australia. He currently lives in New York and continues to record and produce other artists, in addition to his own music. His work with Tommie Sunshine is of particular note, having produced more than 50 remixes and several EPs together under the names Binge & Purge and simply Tommie Sunshine. Since 2005 Mark has returned to playing live shows, completely improvised, using nothing but the analog hardware he used way back in 1993.

Kiss & Tell Resident DJ: Bethany Benzur
Bethany Benzur is our resident disco encyclopedia and vinyl purist from Georgia. Recently emigrating to the Big Apple, Bethany has been ruling the dancefloor at Kiss & Tell parties with her Southern charm. The DJ nerds are regularly awed by her selections, and she joins us each month to warm you up with her mix of raunchy electro, glamorous dark disco, and soulful street funk. She is sometimes joined behind the decks by her husband (and italo disco nerd) Gabe.

Kiss & Tell Hostess, Photographer, Designer: Seze Devres
Seze Devres started Kiss & Tell as an extention of her raunchy knitting circle at Trash Bar in Williamsburg on December 7, 2005. At first only a few people showed up to her new party. However wiith a lot of help, support, and encouragement from her friends the party has become its own little beast. When she is is not dreaming up crazy themes and guests for Kiss & Tell she is a full time artist, photographer, designer and curator.
